The Betrayal
Scripture Reading: Leviticus 12-13; Matthew 28; Psalm 41
Yesterday I wrote about the idea of the “intertextuality” of Scripture. Today, to emphasis the point, read again from Psalm chapter 41 and while you are reading it, be thinking about any connections that it might have to other texts or events in Scripture.
I’m sure that at least one part of this Psalm struck you as familiar. Verse nine says, “Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate bread with me, has lifted up his heel against me.”
When I read this I can help but think about Judas and the Last Supper. Is this coincidental? If I read this Psalm this way, am I reading into the text things that aren’t there?
Well, remember that twice after the resurrection Jesus met with some of His disciples and walked them through the Old Testament, including the Psalms, and taught them how all those things written were written about Him.
When you read your Bible, look for Jesus. He shows up a lot.
