The End
Scripture Reading: Daniel 11:36—45
Leaving aside for the moment the question of who the king is that is spoken of in this text, verse 45 speaks a broadly applicable truth: Yet he shall come to his end, with none to help him.
What is prophesied concerning that king can be said of all who reject Christ and rebel against the God of heaven. It is true of the would-be tyrants of this world, the George Soros’s and Klaus Schwab’s. It is also true of the unknown Joe’s and Jane’s who have, in their own little world, decided they will rule over their own tiny territory and Christ will not be Lord.
These people may, for a time, seem to have achieved success. They may make themselves wealthy and they may have good health and a “happy” life. But their moment of “glory” will not last. They “shall come to their end, with none to help them.”
Even now, though, God’s grace extends even to them. While there is breath and life there is the possibility and the hope of spiritual regeneration and a turning away from sin and self while turning to Christ in faith.
We all face and end here. Will it be the end that is the new, great, and glorious beginning; or the end that is truly the end? Will it be the end in which we awaken anew because we have been wonderfully helped by Jesus, or the end where we, having trusted only in ourselves, find ourselves eternally alone with no one to help us?
