The Lord’s Day
This morning we drive out to CEIM Abohidratimo Church. We met one of the men from the church along the route so he could lead us the last bit of the way there.
The church meets in a rented space in a reddish clay two story building that sits along a narrow hard-packed dirt road lined with similar structures in various states of disrepair.
Chickens must be an important part of the small community’s economy since there are coops and chickens everywhere. The church’s worn four-panel door and matching wooden window shutters were left open during the service to allow light and air to flow into the room where we sat on crudely crafted wood benches.
As the youth choir sang, prayers offered, and Scriptures read children, chickens, and old men with squeaky wheel barrows made their way up and down the street, the children gazing curiously inside as they slowly passed by.
Derrick preached from Psalm 19, sharing about three ways God reveals Himself: (1) Through the book of nature, (2) Through the book of Scripture, and (3) Through the book of our conscience. He tied it together with an explanation of the gospel at the end.
The choir sang another song, offerings were given, and the benediction said.
It was a good start to the Lord’s Day.
