The Teacher's Goal
Scripture Reading: Proverbs 22:19
That your trust may be in the Lord, I have made them [words of the wise, see 22:17 for context] known to you today, even to you.
The teacher gives truth and wisdom to his disciple, not merely for the sake of knowledge. Certainly, knowledge is an important part of what he aims for, but it is not his primary goal. “That your trust may be in the Lord,” is the outcome the teacher strives for. It is not enough that the disciple knows things about God. The aim is that the disciple will trust God. “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
