The Word Opened
Scripture Reading: Psalm 119:129-136
As you head out to assemble with your church family today, Psalm 119:130 would make a good prayer prompter.
The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple. (ESV)
The word “unfolding” here can mean entrance, opening, manifestation, declaring, or revelation. It is used in other contexts for things like opening a door or gate. Used metaphorically here, it is a picture of an opening so that we can enter and see its beauty and truth. The Word is opened and light floods the soul and the simple understand.
We see something like this played out in the experience of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. Jesus encountered them as they traveled and “unfolded” the Scriptures: “Beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, in interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.”
After Jesus left them, they exclaimed, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked with us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?”
Before you get to church today why not pray for those who will be teaching and preaching God’s Word? Pray that the Spirit of God will use them to open, declare, reveal, and unfold the truth of God’s Word so that it gives light and imparts understanding.

Thanks, much needed encouragement!
