There He is Again
Scripture Reading: Psalm 71; Proverbs 18-21; 2 Corinthians 2-3
“Upon you I have leaned from before my birth…” – Psalm 71:6
When we take on a task like reading through the Bible in a year, it’s easy to focus on checking boxes and forget the reason behind it. You’ve seen the Christmas signs that say, “Jesus is the reason for the season.” Well, we need a note taped to our Bible that says: “Jesus is the reason for the readin’.”
At the end of Luke’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us twice that the whole Old Testament—Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms—was about Him. He’s the center, the focus, the goal. Everything points to Him.
But when we’re rushing through our reading plan, it’s easy to miss the trail markers. Sometimes it’s a little crumb on the path, and sometimes it’s a whole loaf lying right in front of us—like Psalm 71:6.
“Upon you I have leaned from before my birth.”
Now, that should make us pause. The psalmist wasn’t claiming personal preexistence. He’s pointing beyond himself to the Messiah—the One who did exist before His birth. This is Jesus showing up in the Psalms.
So here’s the encouragement: don’t just read to finish the plan. Read to find Christ. Let every page of Scripture remind you of Him, draw you to Him, and deepen your love for Him. Because if we get through the whole Bible in a year but miss Jesus, we’ve missed the whole point.
