There is a Remedy
until there isn't
Scripture Reading: 2 Chronicles 36
Chronicles chronicles the history of Israel’s kings. 2 Chronicles ends with the destruction of Jerusalem and a brief explanation of the Babylonian Captivity and the beginning of the return. 36:15-16 gives us an overarching spiritual explanation for the decline and fall of the Hebrew nation. In short, God’s people wandered from Him. God sent prophets to warn them and call them to return. He did so because He loved His people and the Temple. The response of the people was mocking and ridicule and God’s response was wrath.
God’s word and God’s wrath both served to bring His people back to Him in repentance and faith. For hundreds of years, there was a remedy for what ailed Israel. The was a remedy until there wasn’t. This is the blunt assessment of verse 16: “…until there was no remedy.” There comes a time in everyone’s life where there is no remedy. While we live and breathe we have set before us a cure for sin and judgment. If we ignore, mock, malign, or despise the salvation God has provided in Christ, a day eventually comes when “there is no remedy.”
There is a remedy until there isn’t.
