This Day
Scripture Reading: Luke 2:8-14
The angel of the Lord announced to the shepherds the coming of the Messiah with these words, pregnant with meaning:
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
We celebrate the birth of Christ on December 25th. While we don’t know the actual date of Christ’s birth, and it was likely not December 25th, this is the day we traditionally mark the first Advent. The angel referred to the Advent as “this day.”
There ought to be an exclamation point after those two words. For, after centuries of expectation and longing; after prophets repeatedly and with variety foretold the coming of the Messiah that day had suddenly arrived. The godly old man, Simeon, and his female counterpart, Anna, had both been waiting and looking for that day. It had come.
So, today remember and rejoice on this day that that day had finally come!

Merry Christmas!
