Scripture Reading: Proverbs 10:16

The wage of the righteous leads to life, the gain of the wicked to sin.

What a man does with wealth doesn’t make him righteous or wicked. Wealth is the great revealer. It uncovers the condition of the heart. For the righteous, wealth becomes a means to a good end. It provides them a way to bless others and do good in ways they wouldn’t have had the opportunity to do without it.

For the wicked, wealth gives newfound opportunities as well. Only in their case, wealth gave them new possibilities for sinning. They can sin in ways they weren’t able to when they were poor.

The point is wealth doesn’t make you righteous or wicked. It only shows what was already true in your heart.
