What a Day that will Be
Scripture Reading: Romans 8
In his book on theodicy, C. S. Lewis wrote, “Our Father refreshes us on the journey with some pleasant inns but will not encourage us to mistake them for home.” Our “momentary, light afflictions” allow us to be unsettled. Tribulations loosen our earthbound roots and help free us from mistaking this for home.
Lewis went on to write, “the settled happiness and security which we all desire, God withholds from us by the very nature of the world…We are never safe…It’s not hard to see why. The security we crave would teach us to rest our hearts in the world and oppose an obstacle to our return to God…” Being reminded of life’s troubles spurs us to a better impulse. It creates in us a desire to look forward to That Day. Pain gives us reason to pray, “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”

What a day that will be when my Jesus I can see..
