What do you Really Want
Scripture Reading: Psalm 115; Jeremiah 43-44; Hebrews 3
When Jeremiah finished speaking to all the people all these words of the LORD their God...Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah and all the insolent men said to Jeremiah, “You are telling a lie…”
- Jeremiah 43:1-2
Going back to chapter 42, we recall that these same people had pleaded with Jeremiah to pray for them and seek a word from the Lord. It all seemed very sincere — and in their minds, I’m sure it was. But what exposes their real desire is what happens next.
After Jeremiah prays, receives instruction from the Lord, and faithfully delivers that message to them, they accuse him of lying and turn against him. The very people who begged for God’s guidance now reject it because it isn’t what they wanted to hear.
There’s a pattern here I’ve seen many times over the years. People in distress often come to a spiritual leader seeking counsel and prayer. They say they want a word from the Lord, but once Scripture confronts their plans or exposes their sin, they step back, grow angry, and reject both the message and the messenger.
What’s going on?
Often, they aren’t really seeking truth — they’re seeking confirmation. They don’t want correction; they want comfort. They aren’t asking for direction; they’re asking for approval. And when God’s Word says something different than what they hoped, they lash out.
Don’t be that person. Be humble. Accept correction. Be willing to change direction.
To do otherwise is to walk the road of folly — and to invite disaster into your life.
