Where is Your God?
Scripture Reading: Psalm 42:3,10
It would be nice if everyone would be sympathetic and kind to us when we suffer. But that is not the world we live in. There are a few people who can’t help themselves. They find perverse pleasure in the problems others suffer. That’s not a new phenomenon. David experienced the same thing. That often manifests itself against Christians in the most important part of their lives. Their relationship with God becomes the target.
For David, that was expressed in the taunting question, “where is your God?” This was low-hanging fruit. When we, like David make it clear that our lives are lived by faith in God and we say that God is our provider and protector, that question becomes an easy one to ask. And make no mistake, this was not asked out of true interest. The people asking David where his God was were not asking for David to give them a theological dissertation on theodicy. This was a taunt, a mocking verbal assault on David’s faith.
It affected David. We see that in the way he describes his spiritual state. He is thirsty of soul. He is depressed and in turmoil. Maybe he was beginning to wonder where God was.
Where is your God?
I think it is important for us to acknowledge that the troubles of life make us wonder sometimes. This is the point at which we need to trust. This is when faith is not a spiritual accessory, a jewel on a ring to dress up the outside of our spirituality; it is the fuel that powers the sputtering engine of spiritual life. It is the light that leads the blind man through the dark. It is the machete that hacks a way through the tangled jungle. Believing when it seems there isn’t any reason to believe is what it takes sometimes.
You know, and I know that the God who has promised He will never leave nor forsake us, hasn’t left or forsaken us. We also know that the visible evidence of that reality escapes us at times. Keep holding on to Him who is holding on to you. You know the answer to the question. He is right there beside you.

Thank you for adding me, Steve. I enjoyed the first 2 devotionals very much and am looking forward to those ahead.
