Why Are You Doing Bible Study?
Scripture Reading: Psalm 119:33-40
Some people like to study the Bible and theology because they find such pursuits intellectually satisfying. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing. But the study of the Word shouldn’t be just an intellectual pursuit. In reading through Psalm 119 it is evident that the writer desires to learn and gain understanding. In verse 33 he prays, “teach me.” He follows that in verse 34 with, “give me understanding.” He wants to learn. But to what end?
He wants to learn and understand so that he might keep the word, and observe it with his whole heart. He wants to make an application to his life. And so too should we. Read the word. Hear the word. Study the word. Memorize the word. Meditate on the word. Do all those things. But don’t leave off the purpose behind those efforts. Apply the word.

Thank you, we (I) needed to hear this today.
