You Proclaim
a Saturday Story
He came into the worship center and sat down next to his grandmother in a pew toward the back. At the close of the service, the church observed the ordinance of the Lord’s Supper. He looked over at the tiny communion cup and wafer in his grandmother’s hands, leader over to her, pointed, and whispered, “what is that?”
She leaned back toward him, held each up for him to examine closer, and in simple terms explained the meaning of the bread and wine. She briefly told him of the broken body and shed the blood of Christ for the forgiveness of sin, and then took them and received them herself.
Jesus, when he instituted the Lord’s Supper, told us to “do this remembrance of me.” He also said that every time we do it we proclaim our Lord’s death until He comes. Most often we proclaim this to one another, to brothers and sisters in Christ. But occasionally we proclaim his death in communion evangelistically. Thank God for the opportunity to proclaim as we partake.
